Lightning’s Carle finally finds scoresheet in 42nd game

The Tampa Bay Lightning picked up a big two points Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins as a season-long slump ended for a veteran defenseman.

Matt Carle scored the game-winning goal and picked up an assist to record his first two points of the season in his 42nd game.

"There were a lot of goose eggs next to my name on the stat sheet, so it was nice to get rid of a few of those," Carle said postgame, according to Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times.

The offensive outburst will be a welcome sight to general manager Steve Yzerman, who many believe would like to move the blue-liner - and the $11 million owed to him over the next two seasons - ahead of the Feb. 29 trade deadline.

For now, Carle will continue to fill in for the injured Jason Garrison.
