Report: Oilers to offer Lucic 7-year contract worth at least $42M

Milan Lucic is reportedly about to get paid.

The unrestricted free agent is expected to receive a seven-year contract offer worth at least $42 million from the Edmonton Oilers when the signing period opens at 12 pm EST on Friday, according to Chris Johnston of Sportsnet.

Lucic traveled to Edmonton to meet with Oilers brass earlier in the week, and is also believed to have sat down with representatives from the Vancouver Canucks and Dallas Stars.

The 28-year-old winger, who's coming off a three-year, $18-million deal signed with the Boston Bruins, recorded 20 goals and 55 points with the Los Angeles Kings this past season.

Islanders officially under new majority ownership

The New York Islanders have new faces atop the organization.

Jonathan Ledecky and Scott Malkin, whose purchase of the club was approved back in 2014, have officially assumed majority ownership over the Islanders, with former owner Charles Wang retaining a minority stake.

The pair of new owners take over at the beginning of the NHL free agent signing period, with both Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen potentially leaving the club for better offers on the open market.

Bruins’ Khokhlachev signs with KHL St. Petersburg

Alex Khokhlachev is heading back to Russia.

The Boston Bruins prospect, who was selected 40th overall at the 2011 NHL Draft, has signed a two-year deal with the KHL club St. Petersburg, the club announced Friday.

Khokhlachev averaged 0.87 points per game in 197 appearances at the AHL level since 2013, but was only afforded nine games with the Bruins in that time.

Prior to the start of training camp this past season, Khokhlachev expressed his frustration over not getting playing time in Boston, saying, "If they don't give me the chance to play, why am I here?"

The Bruins will retain the restricted free agent's rights should he decide to return to the NHL in the future.
