Buffalo Sabres captain Jack Eichel left Monday's game against the New York Islanders with an undisclosed injury and did not return, the team announced.
Eichel's playing status was a game-time decision heading into the contest after he missed Sunday's practice for a maintenance day.
The 22-year-old is the undisputed MVP of the Sabres, as he leads the squad with 49 points in 39 games.
