Here is a look at the Squad Up daily NHL fantasy picture for Monday, March 6 (all advanced statistics courtesy of Corsica.Hockey and apply to 5v5 situations):

Dynamic Duos

  • LW Alex Ovechkin (85K) & RW T.J. Oshie (57K), Capitals (vs. Stars): The Stars have the second-highest xGA60 (expected goals against per 60 minutes) in the league. Their goaltending tandem is atrocious. The Capitals are not only the league's best team, but they are also the highest-scoring team. Their first line of Ovechkin, Oshie and C Nicklas Backstrom will be licking their chops.
  • C Logan Couture (45K) & LW Patrick Marleau (38K), Sharks (at Jets): Squad Up doesn't allow you to stack Cs Joe Pavelski and Joe Thornton. Luckily, Marleau and Couture come cheap, have combined for nine points in San Jose's last five games and are on the top power play. Winnipeg has been shorthanded 226 times this season -- the second-most in the NHL.
  • C Mark Scheifele (62K) & RW Patrik Laine (45K), Jets (vs. Sharks): It's quite absurd for Laine to be priced at 45K. The rookie phenom is second in the NHL with 32 goals. Scheifele is also having a fantastic season. Even though the Sharks are a strong defensive team, it's tough to pass up this value.

Bargain Plays

  • G Aaron Dell (75K), Sharks (vs. Jets): Dell should get the call between the pipes after Martin Jones started Sunday night. He has been one of the best backup goalies in the league this season, sporting a .935 SV% and a 1.88 GAA in 13 games.
  • RW Kevin Labanc (25K), Sharks (vs. Jets): Labanc is blessed with first-line real estate alongside Thornton and Pavelski. He hasn't exactly made the most of this opportunity, but he is worthy of a flier at the minimum salary against the Jets, who rank fourth-worst in goals against.
  • C Frank Vatrano (28K), Bruins (at Senators): Vatrano is averaging nearly three shots per game and over a hit per game, giving him a high floor in Squad Up. He also has a nice scoring touch, with 10 goals in 31 games this year.

Top Fades

  • G Connor Hellebuyck (99K), Jets (vs. Sharks): Hellebuyck has allowed just one goal in his last two games, so his ownership will be sky-high, but he allowed a combined 10 in the two games prior. He's far too much of a risk to invest 99K, especially against the Pacific Division-leading Sharks.
  • LW Ondrej Palat (54K), Lightning (vs. Rangers): Palat is a solid two-way player, but he hasn't done enough offensively to warrant a 54K salary. Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist has a .926 SV% and a 2.23 GAA on the road this season.
  • D John Carlson (42K), Capitals (vs. Stars): Even though the matchup is juicy, it's best to fade Carlson. The addition of D Kevin Shattenkirk (44K) has bumped Carlson off the top power-play unit, featuring Ovechkin, Backstrom, Oshie and LW Marcus Johansson.

Contrarian Options

  • C Jason Spezza (32K), Stars (at Capitals): Spezza is a shadow of his former self, but he still has great vision, a soft set of hands and an underrated shot. He has taken advantage of a glorious opportunity to center LW Jamie Benn and C/RW Tyler Seguin, tallying five points in as many games, but he'll be left unowned against the Caps.
  • C Mathieu Perreault (47K), Jets (vs. Sharks): Perreault has been one of the hottest players in the NHL lately with 11 points in his last seven games. Playing on a line with Scheifele and Laine is a major reason why. This production should continue against a tired Sharks team.
  • RW Blake Wheeler (63K), Jets (vs. Sharks): If Squad Up users are looking for a right winger from the Jets, it'll surely be the cheaper and more productive Laine. However, Wheeler has back-to-back three-point games and can't be overlooked.
