Flyers’ Patrick remains week-to-week with migraine disorder

Philadelphia Flyers forward Nolan Patrick remains week-to-week as he recovers from a migraine disorder, general manager Chuck Fletcher said Thursday.

"There's no change in his status," Fletcher said, according to Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia. "We just continue to work with him and hope that he continues to improve."

Patrick was diagnosed with the disorder in late September and has yet to play this season.

"We're hopeful. It's a tough situation," Fletcher added when asked if he believes Patrick will play this season. "I can't predict what will happen."

The 21-year-old has recorded 26 goals and 61 points over 145 games across two seasons since being taken second overall by the Flyers in 2017.

Gusev out of Devils’ lineup Wednesday, will watch game with Elias

New Jersey Devils forward Nikita Gusev will be a healthy scratch Wednesday but will be given a special learning opportunity with club legend Patrik Elias in the press box.

"(Elias) knows the difference between the leagues. He knows the differences of coming over as a European player to here," head coach John Hynes said Tuesday. "... Patty was a cerebral offensive player, but he was very good on both sides of the puck."

"... Because Patty's been around with us so long, he knows how we want to play and he knows some of the adjustments it takes for a young player."

The 27-year-old Gusev led the KHL in scoring last season and has three goals and one assist in nine games to kick off his NHL career.

"It's been a lot of hockey for him since he's come in," Hynes added. "... He's a veteran player with tons of experience, but he's a rookie in the NHL. That's something we want to help him work through."

Elias spent 20 seasons with the Devils between 1995 and 2016 and played in the Russian Superleague during the lockout in 2004-05. He amassed 408 goals and 1025 points in 1240 games with New Jersey.

Avs’ Landeskog out indefinitely with lower-body injury

Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog will be out indefinitely with a lower-body injury, the team announced Tuesday.

"Landy got hurt over the last couple of games and came to practice Sunday, had some discomfort," Avs head coach Jared Bednar told the media, including the Denver Post's Mike Chambers. "He's going to miss some significant time here, I really don't have a timetable."

It's unclear exactly when the 26-year-old Landeskog suffered the injury. He logged more than 20 minutes of ice time in Colorado's most recent game on Saturday against the Anaheim Ducks.

The Swedish forward has recorded three goals and seven points in 11 games this season for the Avalanche, who occupy first place in the Central Division.

Landeskog's absence comes after it was announced last week that star linemate Mikko Rantanen will be out week-to-week with a reported leg injury.

Subban, Vonn troll Gritty at Halloween party in response to jab

It appears P.K. Subban and Lindsey Vonn got the last laugh after Gritty tried to steal Subban's fiancee earlier this month.

The couple attended the New Jersey Devils' recent Halloween party, where Subban was dressed up as mascot NJ Devil and Vonn held a sign that read, "Gritty you're right, I CAN do better!"

That came after Gritty taunted Subban during warmups in Philadelphia, attempting to lure Vonn from him.

Good try, Gritty.

Senators’ Ryan to be healthy scratch vs. Sharks

Ottawa Senators forward Bobby Ryan will be a healthy scratch against the San Jose Sharks on Sunday night, head coach D.J. Smith told reporters, including The Athletic's Hailey Salvian.

Ryan will be replaced in the lineup by forward Filip Chlapik, the team's 48th overall selection in the 2015 draft.

The 32-year-old Ryan in the fifth season of a seven-year deal, which carries a cap hit of $7.25 million.

The veteran has just one goal and three assists through 10 contests this season. He's seen his role reduced and is averaging 12:36 minutes of ice time per game.

This is only the second time Ryan has been a healthy scratch in the last 12 years. He was left out of the lineup in January 2017 by former Sens coach Guy Boucher, according to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun.

Tarasenko will miss at least next 2 games

St. Louis Blues star Vladimir Tarasenko will not play during an upcoming two-game road trip, the team announced Friday.

Tarasenko will miss at least the next two games against the Boston Bruins and the Detroit Red Wings before he's re-evaluated next week.

The Russian forward exited Thursday's contest with an upper-body injury in the first period and did not return.

Tarasenko has three goals and seven assists through 10 games this season.

Dennis Seidenberg retires after 15 seasons

Defenseman Dennis Seidenberg announced his retirement on Wednesday.

"Physically, it just does not work anymore; my shoulder and wrists are pretty much done after 15 years in the NHL," Seidenberg told German outlet EIS Hockey News, according to NBC Sports via Google Translate.

Seidenberg played a pivotal role in the Boston Bruins' Stanley Cup title in 2011. He recorded 11 points during those playoffs and averaged 27:38 minutes of ice time per game.

The 38-year-old dressed for six teams after being drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round in 2001. He last played for the New York Islanders in 2017-18.

Seidenberg ends his career with 44 goals and 251 points over 859 games.

Pastrnak: Nothing wrong with picking rival Matthews for Hart Trophy

Just because their teams are rivals, doesn't mean David Pastrnak can't show Auston Matthews some love.

"He has an unbelievable shot and skill set and he can find the soft spot," Pastrnak told reporters Tuesday, via TSN. "Every time he's 100% healthy he's showing that, and I just think he's a hell of a player."

During the summer, the Boston Bruins winger predicted that the Toronto Maple Leafs star would win the Hart Trophy this season.

"I don't think there's something wrong with just giving him credit when he deserves it," Pastrnak added. "It's early in the season, he's showing that he can score goals, and he's been showing that since he got here."

So far in 2019-20, Pastrnak is tied with James Neal for the league lead in goals with nine, but Matthews isn't far behind with eight. The two players clashed on Saturday, as Pastrnak scored a goal but Matthews helped set up the game-winner for Toronto in overtime.

The Maple Leafs haven't had a Hart Trophy winner in 64 years. Ted Kennedy won the honor in 1954-55.

The Bruins and Maple Leafs will meet again Tuesday night in Boston.

Zucker apologizes for calling out Boudreau

Jason Zucker regrets calling out head coach Bruce Boudreau earlier this week.

"I'll start by first apologizing to Bruce. There was no reason for me to use his name in that quote in any way," Zucker said to the media on Saturday. "My intention with the quote was to state that everybody needs to be better ... 99.9% of that is on the players."

Zucker's comments were made after the Minnesota Wild lost 4-0 to the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, dropping their record to 1-6-0.

Despite the harsh criticism, it seems Boudreau understood where his player was coming from.

"His whole thing was that everyone has to be better. He didn't intend, or want to center me out," Boudreau said.

The veteran forward clarified he still wants to see a stronger effort from his teammates.

"I stand by the fact that A) it was my mistake, but I also stand by the fact that everybody does need to be better."

Report: Hurricanes show interest in Ho-Sang, Puljujarvi

The Carolina Hurricanes may be looking to add to their forward depth.

"They've made inquiries, and one of them is Josh Ho-Sang," TSN's Pierre LeBrun reported on Thursday's edition of "Insider Trading." "Jesse Puljujarvi ... that's another player that I'm told the Hurricanes have kicked tires on."

The New York Islanders selected Ho-Sang 28th overall in 2014, but the forward has struggled to crack their NHL roster. He's appeared in just 53 games since being drafted.

Puljujarvi, who was taken fourth overall in the 2016 draft by the Edmonton Oilers, has also failed to produce with his club, registering 37 points in 139 games. He began this season playing in the Finnish Elite League, where he's put up 12 points in 12 games.

"At some point in time, I think the Hurricanes, who are off to a good start, feel they need to add one more top-nine forward in their lineup," LeBrun added.

The Hurricanes sit atop the Metropolitan Division with a 6-2-0 record.
