Scheifele sets NHL record with 7th road goal in single series

With two goals in Game 7, Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele set an NHL record with his seventh road goal in a single series.

Scheifele did all his goal-scoring in the second round at Bridgestone Arena and in doing so, bested the previous record for road goals in a series that was shared by 10 different players, including Sidney Crosby.

The 25-year-old proved to be the Predators' killer with a whopping 11 points in the seven games. Scheifele now leads the playoffs with 11 goals and paces his team with 16 points.

Predators’ Hartman, Emelin in lineup for Game 7 vs. Jets

Nashville Predators forward Ryan Hartman and defenseman Alexei Emelin are back in the lineup for a pivotal Game 7 against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday, the team announced.

Hartman replaces the injured Mike Fisher. Emelin, meanwhile, is filling in for Matt Irwin on the back end.

Hartman played in Games 2-5 where he's contributed a goal and an assist but hasn't been in the lineup since. Emelin enters the series having not played since Game 3. The 32-year-old has gone pointless in nine playoff contests with just one shot on goal.

Maple Leafs’ Andersen backstops Denmark to upset win over Finland

Denmark put on a show for the home crowd with a 3-2 upset win over powerhouse Finland on Wednesday.

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen turned away 33 of the 35 Finish shots thrown his way as Denmark improved to 1-1-0-2, good enough for a share of fourth place in Group B.

Frans Nielsen, Oliver Bjorkstrand, and Nichlas Hardt scored the goals for Denmark, while Sebastian Aho and Mikael Granlund did the damage for Finland.

Finland entered the game with a perfect 3-0-0-0 record, having outscored the opposition 23-2.

Denmark will now enjoy a day off before returning to action Friday against Norway. Meanwhile, Finland will look to get back in the win column Saturday when it takes on Canada.

Ovechkin on finally beating Penguins: ‘We’re not going to vacation … it’s fun’

Alex Ovechkin is happy to be putting any previous vacation plans on hold.

The Washington Capitals advanced to their first Eastern Conference Final since 1998 with an overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6 on Monday. For Ovechkin, the win was a long time coming and he explained what it's like to finally beat the Penguins in the playoffs.

"Finally, you know? It's been too long," Ovechkin said postgame to Sportsnet's Chris Simpson, according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston. "Finally we beat Pittsburgh and finally we move to the next round. We didn't go home, we're not going to vacation, we're still battling and it's fun."

The Washington victory snapped a streak of seven consecutive series wins by the Penguins against the Capitals, dating back to the 1995 conference finals. It was also Ovechkin's first time defeating the Penguins in the playoffs in four career series.

Ovechkin and Co. will now meet the Tampa Bay Lightning and will look to earn a spot in their first Stanley Cup Final in 20 years.

Crosby ties Yzerman for 10th all time in playoff points

Sidney Crosby continues to climb the ranks of the best playoff performers of all time.

With an assist on Kris Letang's second-period goal, the Pittsburgh Penguins captain collected his 185 career playoff point, putting him in a tie with Steve Yzerman for 10th all time in playoff points.

Crosby will most certainly ascend higher on the list as he sits just three points back of Joe Sakic and Doug Gilmour, who are tied for eighth. However, he has 197 more points to go if he plans to catch Wayne Gretzky, who holds down the top spot.

Capitals’ Backstrom out for Game 6 vs. Penguins

Washington Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom will not play Game 6 against the Pittsburgh Penguins as he deals with an upper-body injury, the team announced.

The upper-body injury in question appears to be to his hand, as Backstrom arrived at the rink ahead of the game wearing a cast on his right hand.

The news comes after head coach Barry Trotz told reporters Backstrom would be a game-time decision for Monday's contest. The 30-year-old suffered the injury in Game 5 and, as of Sunday, was expected to be in the lineup for Game 6.

Backstrom has been among the team's most lethal producers throughout the playoffs with three goals and 13 points in 11 games, just one point back of Alex Ovechkin for the team lead.

Canada wins 2nd straight with rout of Denmark

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored twice and Connor McDavid chipped in with three assists as Canada cruised by Denmark 7-1 on Monday at the World Hockey Championship.

Josh Bailey and Mathew Barzal had two points apiece in a game which featured 13 different players on the scoresheet.

Bailey, Jordan Eberle, Ryan O'Reilly, Tyson Jost, and Aaron Ekblad rounded out the goal-scoring for Canada, which improved to 2-0-1-0, good enough for second place in Group B behind the Americans.

Curtis McElhinney was nearly perfect once again in his second straight start, allowing just the lone goal on 17 shots. Denmark's Jesper Jensen Aabo ruined McElhinney's bid for a second consecutive shutout, scoring at the 11:56 mark of the third period.

Canada will enjoy a two-day break before taking on Norway on Thursday.

Fleury remains clutch in series-clinching games

When the series is on the line, you can count on Marc-Andre Fleury to have a big game.

With his 28-save shutout in Game 6 of the Vegas Golden Knights' second-round series against the San Jose Sharks, Fleury earned his fourth career shutout in series-clinching games, the second-most among any goaltender in NHL history, and just one shy of the all-time leader, Chris Osgood.

Fleury's fourth shutout of the playoffs now stands as the sixth-most in a single playoff run, one shy of tying Jean-Sebastian Giguere, Miikka Kiprusoff, and Nikolai Khabibulin for the third-most. Meanwhile, it also gives him 14 career playoff shutouts, good enough for sixth all time.

The 33-year-old now boasts a league-best .951 save percentage and a 1.53 goals-against average.

Sharks’ Kane says he played with separated shoulder, MCL injury

Evander Kane's sudden drop in offense this postseason might have been the result of injuries.

On Sunday, the San Jose Sharks forward told The Athletic's Kevin Kurz he'd been playing with a separated shoulder, and had previously dealt with an MCL injury.

After recording three goals and an assist in the Sharks' opening-round series against the Anaheim Ducks, Kane scored just one goal in six games against the Vegas Golden Knights, going pointless in the final three contests as San Jose was eliminated.

The 26-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, and is sure to be a hot commodity after a 54-point regular season.
