Jets’ Little out indefinitely

Winnipeg Jets forward Bryan Little is out indefinitely with an undisclosed injury, according to head coach Paul Maurice.

Little left Thursday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes following a collision with Bryan Bickell midway through the first period.

The news is extra disheartening for Little, who entered the season after being shut down last February after suffering a fractured vertebrae from a hit by Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Anton Stralman.

According to Maurice, the team should have a better idea about the severity of the injury in a couple weeks.

Little managed 17 goals and 42 points in 57 games last season.

Kane took the spill late in the second period of Thursday's contest in a race for the puck with Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin.

He had to be helped off the ice, and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The news gets worse for the Sabres, who earlier in the day announced that forward Jack Eichel would miss weeks after sustaining a high-ankle sprain in practice on Wednesday.

On the bright side after missing the opener with an ailing knee injury, forward Kyle Okposo will likely dress Sunday when the Sabres tangle with the Edmonton Oilers.

Carey Price suffering from ‘severe’ case of flu

The Montreal Canadiens will be without Carey Price for at least two games to begin what they hope will be a bounce-back season. Based on the club's latest update, however, there's a chance his absence could be longer.

Montreal announced Friday that Price is suffering from a "severe" case of the flu, and has been put on antibiotics while being evaluated at home daily by team doctor David Mulder.

The Canadiens won their season opener, with Al Montoya stopping 30-of-31 shots in goal. It's expected that Montoya will be in net again Saturday in Ottawa.

Matthews to remain loyal to Dodgers … even in a World Series versus Toronto

After scoring a record four times in his NHL debut, there's no need for Auston Matthews to pander to the Toronto sports fan base. But give the kid credit for not caving.

Born in California and raised a quality baseball player himself growing up in Arizona, the lifelong fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers admitted Friday - after a moment's hesitation - that he'd have to stay loyal to his boyhood team should they meet the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series.

The Dodgers advanced in dramatic fashion during an off night for the Maple Leafs on Thursday, sending ace Clayton Kershaw out to the bump on a day of rest to close out Game 5 versus the Washington Nationals.

They meet the Chicago Cubs in the NLCS, while the Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians will begin their ALCS showdown Friday.

Report: Canadiens place Andrighetto on waivers

The Montreal Canadiens placed forward Sven Andrighetto on waivers Friday, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

As per TVA Sports' Renaud Lavoie, the move is likely in response to defenseman Jeff Petry who is feeling better after missing the team's season opener on Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres with a knee injury.

Andrighetto split last season with the Canadiens and the St. John's IceCaps of the American Hockey League. He posted seven goals and 17 points in 44 games with the big club, while adding another 23 points in 26 games with the IceCaps.
