Watch: Perry displays vintage scoring touch vs. Caps

On a night when the Anaheim Ducks celebrated the 10th anniversary of their lone Stanley Cup win, Corey Perry looked like his old self.

It helped that Washington turned the puck over in its own zone, but the winger put his skills on display by making a power move to the net and getting the better of Braden Holtby - one of the best goalies in the league.

The goal was Perry's 13th of the season, well below his average output since breaking into the NHL one year prior to the Cup win.

Watch: Goal ends Norwegian playoff game in 8th OT

It took eight hours and 35 minutes, but fans of Storhamar went home happy Sunday after forward Joakim Jensen scored in the eighth - yes, eighth - overtime of a playoff game versus Sparta in Norway's top league.

The game finished with a score of 2-1. Storhamar led the shot count by a final tally of 96-93 and ultimately took a 3-2 lead in the series.

Simply ridiculous.

Senators’ MacArthur not ready to retire: ‘I feel as though I could play’

Clarke MacArthur doesn't want to believe his playing days are done.

The Ottawa Senators winger, who's been ruled out of the remainder of the season with a concussion suffered in training camp, wants to return to NHL action next season, provided he passes the baseline test and receives full medical clearance to do so.

"I feel as though I could play," he told Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia. "I felt how I did two years ago before this (happened). Everything keeps coming back around, and I just feel like I want to try to continue to do it. I’m going to work out the rest of the year and see how things are the rest of the season."

MacArthur added he still has a passion for the game and isn't experiencing symptoms that would cause him to worry about his long-term future. The more immediate concern would be whether he could keep up after appearing in only four games over the past two years

"I feel I can get back to the level I was at, and I have to believe that if I want to have a chance at it," he said. "Who knows? Those questions were looming over me all summer. I did all the work I could do and I felt really good at camp, and I was only there for a short while, but, during the drills I felt, 'I’ve still got it.'"

MacArthur suffered a pair of concussions during the 2015-16 season, and another during a training camp scrimmage. He remains under contract with the Senators through to the end of 2019-20.

Canadiens blitz Oilers in final 7 minutes to stay red hot

EDMONTON, Alberta - Paul Byron scored twice and added an assist in the Montreal Canadiens' 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night.

Alex Galchenyuk and Max Pacioretty also scored, and Carey Price made 24 saves. The Canadiens have won seven of their last eight.

Milan Lucic scored for the Oilers. They have dropped three in a row.

Montreal had the bulk of its chances in the scoreless first period, putting 15 shots on Oilers goalie Cam Talbot against six Oilers shots on Price, who returned after sitting out in Calgary because of the flu.

Lucic outmuscled Alexei Emelin for the puck and beat Price with a long shot for his 15th of the season four minutes into the second.

The Oilers almost added to their lead midway through the third, but Price made a huge save on a point-blank shot by Patrick Maroon.

Byron picked the puck up in front and sent it under Talbot for his 17th of the season with 6:27 left in the third to tie it. Just over a minute later, Galchenyuk tipped a shot up high over Talbot for his 16th.

Byron and Pacioretty added empty-net goals, with Pacioretty pushing his season total to 32.

Notes: It was the second and final meeting of the season between the teams. Edmonton won 1-0 in a shootout Feb. 5 in Montreal. ... Montreal forward Alexander Radulov returned after missing the three games with a lower-body injury. Center Tomas Plekanec remained out with an upper-body injury. ... Talbot made his NHL-high 61st start in the Edmonton net.

Rangers’ Raanta sets career high with 14th win

No King, no problem.

With Henrik Lundqvist out two to three weeks with a hip injury, Antti Raanta's the man in goal for the New York Rangers, and he's more than capable.

New York beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 on Sunday, giving Raanta his 14th win of the season - a new career high. In a campaign during which subpar backup goaltending has been an issue for a number of teams, count the Rangers as one of the blessed.

Raanta went into Sunday's game with a .922 save percentage and three shutouts across 23 games and 19 starts. And that percentage is going up after another 23 saves.

In other words, he's been excellent. And the Rangers are hoping that will pay off in the spring, with Lundqvist hopefully in line - and well rested - for another deep playoff run.

Also encouraging and impressive: Sunday's win was the Rangers' league-leading 25th on the road this season, and New York's now 19-5-1 following a loss.

Former NHLer Ryan Smyth injured by headshot in Sr. AAA playoffs

Former NHLer Ryan Smyth, now a member of the Stony Plain Eagles of the Chinook Hockey League in Alberta, was injured Saturday after taking an elbow to the head in Game 1 of the provincial finals versus the Lacombe Generals.

Smyth was left lying motionless on the ice after the hit, but ultimately exited the ice under his own power and is resting at his Edmonton home, the team announced Sunday.

The incident took place in the third period. Generals forward Kyle Sheen targeted Smyth shortly after he scored the go-ahead goal, according to Mitch Goldenberg of the Spruce Grove Examiner.

"Sheen was backtracking Smyth and made a beeline for him right after he released the puck with a blindside elbow to the face, leaving his feet," Eagles coach Mike Tavaroli said.

Smyth, 41, is a veteran of 1,270 NHL games, in which he recorded 386 goals and 456 assists.

Watch: Hayes finishes tic-tac-toe to reach new career-high in points

Kevin Hayes reached a new personal best in style Sunday night in Detroit.

Just 37 seconds after Ryan McDonagh scored his second goal of the game, the Rangers struck again, this time after Hayes finished a gorgeous play with linemates Michael Grabner and J.T. Miller.

Hayes' 17th goal of the season matched a career-high in that regard, but it was also his second point of the night, establishing a new personal best at 46 and counting.

Watch: Oilers’ Lucic fends off Emelin, beats Price 5-hole

Vintage Milan Lucic.

The Edmonton Oilers winger, who knows a thing or two about playing the Montreal Canadiens from his days with the Boston Bruins, took matters onto his own stick by fighting off defenseman Alexei Emelin and snapping the puck between Carey Price's legs Sunday night.

The goal was Lucic's 15th of the season, and first in the month of March.

Sharks giving out Brent Burns grills with missing front teeth

The San Jose Sharks continue to up their giveaway game.

Less than two months after "Chia Jumbo" night, when the team gave away Chia Pets that grow in imitation of Joe Thornton's beard, defenseman Brent Burns will be honored with a grill giveaway Sunday.

No, not BBQs - fake teeth, or rather, the lack thereof.

The grills will be handed out prior to the Sharks' game against Dallas.

3 things to know about newest Canucks forward Drew Shore

The Vancouver Canucks announced the signing of 26-year-old American center Drew Shore on Sunday, and he'll join the club out of Switzerland for the remainder of the season.

As Vancouver plays out another lost season, on track to miss the playoffs in back-to-back campaigns and third time in four years, it appears Shore - one of the top scorers in the Swiss league this season - is going to get a chance to show what he can do in the 14 games the Canucks have left.

Below are three things you need to know about the newest Canuck.

Swiss success

After playing the majority of his hockey in the AHL since 2013, Shore departed for Switzerland in 2016, and the decision clearly paid off.

A superb season for Kloten HC saw Shore finish near the top of the scoring leaderboard in 50 games. Here's where his production ranked:

Statistic Rank
24 goals 3rd
24 assists T-10th
48 points T-4th
0.98 PPG T-10th

While Shore tore up the competition, his team didn't.

Kloten won only 19 of 50 games, finishing the season in ninth place in the standings, and missing the playoffs.

With Vancouver selling at the trade deadline, acquiring Nkolay Goldobin from San Jose and Jonathan Dahlen from Ottawa, and the Canucks also seemingly forever banged up by injury, Shore's season ending early in Switzerland means the Canucks are willing to give him a chance. And why not?

It's a low-risk move for Jim Benning and co., and Shore should certainly be motivated to have some NHL hockey left to play this season.

NHL experience

Shore came up with USA Hockey, part of its developmental program, and was drafted 44th overall in the second round by the Florida Panthers in 2009. He went off to college that fall, and spent three seasons at the University of Denver. In his final two NCAA seasons, he scored 23 and 22 goals, respectively, and finished with 99 points in 82 games. There's always been offense in his stick.

After a short stint in the AHL with San Antonio after his final college season in 2011-2012, Shore split 2012-13 between San Antonio and the Panthers. He finished with three goals and 13 points in his first 43 NHL games. It's been mostly AHL hockey since, in the Panthers and Calgary Flames organizations:

Season Team GP G A P
2013-14 San Antonio 50 6 26 32
2013-14 Panthers 24 5 2 7
2014-15 San Antonio 35 9 21 30
2014-15 Adirondack (AHL) 12 3 4 7
2014-15 Flames 11 1 2 3
2015-16 Stockton (AHL) 59 10 28 38
2015-16 Flames 2 0 1 1

After playing only 13 games in the NHL in two years, it's no surprise Shore traded in minor-league buses for Swiss hockey. But he does join Vancouver with 80 games, nine goals, and 15 assists on his NHL resume.

His new teammates are excited

Shore's a big body. He's 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds - according to Elite Prospects - shoots right, and can play center and right wing.

And a couple of his new teammates are familiar with and excited about what he can bring to the team:

"Two-way player, good speed and shot," Sven Baertschi said. "We played a few games together and he's solid. He's a great guy in the room, too."

The newest Canuck is also deft at keeping secrets:

Shore will join the Canucks on Monday, and will wear No. 42.

Vancouver's in action three times next week: Monday at home to Boston, Thursday hosting Dallas, and Saturday in Edmonton. While it's unlikely Shore's in the lineup against the Bruins, expect him to be playing versus the Stars.

That'll leave the young man with 13 games to make a lasting impression.
