Josi's 3-point night elevates Nashville Predators past Capitals | Recap

Roman Josi had a goal and two assists as the Nashville Predators finished out a weekend back-to-back with a victory over the Washington Capitals, 3-2, on Sunday at Bridgestone Arena.

The victory comes 24 hours after the Predators were shut out by Chicago Blackhawks rookie goalie Stanislav Berezhnoy in a 3-0 loss.

For a 10th straight game, Nashville gave up the first goal of the game. Alexander Ovechkin scored his 917th career goal off a one-timer in the power play to put the Capitals up 1-0. The goal was scored on a 5-on-3 opportunity as Josi was called for holding and Michael McCarron for delay of game.

Steven Stamkos responded on the power play, putting away his 19th goal of the season off a one-time feed from Filip Forsberg. Josi had the secondary assist.

In the second period, Josi pushed the puck forward to Cole Smith in traffic. Under heavy pressure, Smith was able to elevate the puck and beat Charlie Lindgren high for the game-leading goal.

The Predators got a 5-on-3 opportunity of their own in the third period after Hendrix Lapierre was called for holding and John Carlson was called for delay of the game a little over a minute later.

Josi scored his sixth goal of the season, putting a one-timer feed from Stamkos. Three points is the most goals Josi has recorded in a game since April 13, 2024, when he had four points in a 6-4 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Stamkos had two points (one goal, one assist) in the victory.

Ethen Frank made things interesting in the third period, scoring on the power play to cut Nashville's lead down to a goal.

Justus Annunen made 27 saves on 29 shots, picking up his fourth win of the season. He is now one victory away from a .500 record.

The Predators improve to 21-20-4 on the year and have 46 points, putting them in fifth place in the Central Division and two points outside a Wild Card spot.

Up next: Edmonton Oilers (22-16-7, 2nd Pacific) at Nashville Predators (21-20-4, 5th Central) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CST at Bridgestone Arena.
