Hossa continues to defy odds in 19th season

Marian Hossa isn't showing any signs of slowing down as he approaches two decades of NHL experience.

The Chicago Blackhawks forward's 2016-17 campaign was already off to a blistering start, but the 37-year-old took it to the next level with yet another game-winning goal Saturday night against the Vancouver Canucks.

Watch: Blackhawks complete comeback with Hossa's OT dagger

Hossa has 11 goals and 17 points in 18 games, and he's been on an absolute tear lately.

Those game-winners have all been collected in the last seven contests, with the last two coming in back-to-back games, as Hossa also scored Friday's decisive marker in a victory over the Calgary Flames.

Hossa is now two goals shy of his entire 2015-16 output through less than a quarter of this season.

The veteran is tied with New York Rangers forward Michael Grabner for second in the NHL's goal-scoring race and sits tied for sixth among the league's points leaders early on.

Hossa is also two goals away from tying Gilbert Perreault for 39th on the all-time list, and he's 15 points from equaling Darryl Sittler's career total of 1,121.

He passed Peter Bondra to become the highest-scoring Slovakian-born player in NHL history earlier this month, and became the 44th player in league history to score 500 goals when he accomplished that feat in October.

The three-time Stanley Cup champion has been a major reason why the Blackhawks boast the NHL's second-best record, with eight wins in their last 10 games.

Hossa is clearly destined for the Hockey Hall of Fame when his career concludes, but if he continues producing at or close to his current pace, retirement shouldn't even be an immediate consideration.

Watch: Blackhawks complete comeback with Hossa’s OT dagger

The Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks traded chances throughout a highly entertaining overtime period, but it was one Jacob Markstrom would surely want back that ended it Saturday night.

Watch Marian Hossa dance over the line and whip a low wrist shot through Markstrom, seeing the Blackhawks come all the way back after falling behind 3-0 through 40 minutes.

NHL world sends well wishes to Craig Cunningham

An outpouring of support has surfaced on social media for Craig Cunningham, the journeyman forward and Tucson Roadrunners captain who collapsed before Saturday's game versus the Manitoba Moose.

There were messages from teammates:

And plenty more from those he's touched across the hockey world:

Cunningham was taken to hospital after suffering a medical emergency before the game. There will be an update when the Arizona Coyotes receive more information about his health.

Sidney Crosby still good for a goal per game

The Pittsburgh Penguins were flat in the second half of a back-to-back in their shootout loss Saturday versus the Buffalo Sabres, but there was no dip in the production of captain Sidney Crosby.

Zipping a pass from Chris Kunitz into the back of the net on a power play in the third period, Crosby kept his 82-goal scoring pace and matched Patrik Laine for the league lead with 12 goals.

Though he'd have to settle for a career-high 76 tallies should he maintain this scoring surge due to missing the first six games of the season, his league-best 1.33 points per game has him on track to surpass the 100-point threshold for the first time in three seasons.

Watch: Hanzal neatly tips overtime winner past Jones

If Martin Hanzal's indeed on the market, add "deft hand-eye coordination" next to "affordable big-bodied center" on his list of appealing attributes.

Hanzal choked up as Alex Goligoski lifted a shot toward goal in Saturday's overtime frame with the San Jose Sharks, neatly popping it over the shoulder of Martin Jones to end the Arizona Coyotes' four-game skid.

Canadiens extend winning streak over Maple Leafs to 12 games

Ending a mini three-game slide, the Montreal Canadiens prolonged the misery for their storied rivals.

The Canadiens defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 Saturday at Bell Centre, winning for the 12th consecutive time in head-to-head competition across parts of four seasons.

Carey Price, who's anchored nine of those 12 victories, stopped 31 shots for his league-leading 11th win. He's the second Canadiens goaltender to win 11 of his first 12 starts to begin a season, joining Charlie Hodge.

Toronto's last win versus Montreal came on Jan. 18, 2014. Price allowed four goals on 29 shots that night.

Emelin sends Van Riemsdyk into boards with dirty hit from behind

Alexei Emelin didn't want the Montreal Canadiens' 12th consecutive victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs to end quietly.

As the clock approached zero during the third period of Montreal's 2-1 win Saturday, Emelin cross-checked James van Riemsdyk, sending him headfirst into the end boards.

It wasn't the only bit of animosity between the two rivals, as Leafs forward Matt Martin was penalized for a similar hit on Nathan Beaulieu minutes earlier.

AHL game postponed after Roadrunners captain collapses

A scary moment put hockey on the back burner ahead of Saturday's AHL contest between the Tuscon Roadrunners and the Manitoba Moose, as Roadrunners captain Craig Cunningham collapsed moments before puck drop.

Medics cut Cunningham's jersey as he laid on his back, and performed chest compressions before he was taken to a local hospital. There's been no update on his condition.

The game has been postponed with no make-up date announced.

Cunningham, 26, was drafted in the fourth round by the Boston Bruins in 2010, and has spent the last three seasons in the Coyotes organization.
