San Jose Sharks Trade Thomas Bordeleau To New Jersey Devils For Shane Bowers

The New Jersey Devils announced they have acquired forward Thomas Bordeleau from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for forward Shane Bowers.

Bordeleau recorded 14 goals and 38 points in 59 games with the San Jose Barracuda and appeared in one game with the Sharks last season.

The 23-year-old has 47 goals and 107 points in 161 career AHL and 18 points in 44 career NHL games.

The 38th overall selection by the Sharks in the 2020 draft, Bordeleau had strong professional debuts in both the AHL and NHL but appears to have been passed on the depth chart by other Sharks prospects. He is a very intelligent player and this is a good high upside trade for New Jersey.

A native of Houston, TX., Bordeleau won the Tim Taylor Award as NCAA's top rookie with the Michigan Wolverines in 2021, was a Top 3 player on Team USA at the 2022 World Junior Championship, and represented the Pacific Division at the 2023 AHL All-Star Game.

Bowers had three goals and 17 points in 65 games with the Utica Comets and went pointless in four games with the Devils last season.

The 25-year-old has 44 goals and 97 points in 282 career AHL games and is pointless in 13 career NHL games.

A first round selection of the Ottawa Senators in  2017, Bowers was a member of Team Canada at the 2019 World Juniors and was named to the NCAA Hockey East All-Rookie Team with Boston University in 2018.

Pezzetta, Mermis and Groulx's deals are all two-year contracts that will see them make $812,500 while Boyd's deal is for one year at $775,000.

Mermis, a product of Alton, Ill., spent the 2024-25 season splitting time between the Maple Leafs organization and the Utah Mammoth. In four NHL games, he collected an assist while putting up seven assists in 32 AHL games with the Toronto Marlies.

Over parts of eight NHL seasons with the Mammoth, Maple Leafs, Arizona Coyotes, New Jersey Devils and Minnesota Wild, Mermis scored four goals and added nine assists for 13 points in 78 games.

The only one inked by the Leafs to spend the entire 2024-25 season in the NHL, Pezzetta joins the Leafs after spending last year with the Montreal Canadiens. In 25 games with the Habs, Pezzetta went pointless but collected 24 penalty minutes. Known for his physicality and energy, Pezzetta has 15 goals and 38 points in 200 career NHL games.

With the Maple Leafs announcing these deals, all of the players mentioned above add solid depth to the organization. While they might find it tough to carve out a full-time NHL role, Groulx, Pezzetta, Boyd and Mermis will likely be upon the first players called on in case of injury or suspension.

The Toronto, Ont., native has 25 points and 186 penalty minutes in 115 career AHL games and 38 points in 200 NHL games.

New York Islanders Re-Sign Julien Gauthier And Liam Foudy

The New York Islanders announced they have re-signed forwards Liam Foudy and Julien Gauthier to one-year, two-way contracts for the 2025-26 season.

Foudy recorded 20 goals and 45 points in 70 games with the Bridgeport Islanders last season and went pointless in two NHL games with the New York Islanders.

The 25-year-old has 96 points in 139 career AHL games and 22 points in 104 career NHL games.

Originally a first round selection of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2018, Foudy is one of the best skaters around and will enter his second season in the organization.

Gauthier went pointless in one NHL game with the Islanders and had eight points in nine games with Bridgeport before suffering an injury in November that forced him to miss the remainder of the season.

A first round selection of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2016, Gauthier has 123 points in 214 career AHL games and 41 points in 181 career NHL games.

The 27-year-old won the 2019 Calder Cup with the Charlotte Checkers.

After a historically bad 2024-25 season the Islanders hired Rocky Thompson as the team's new head coach and seem poised to improve their AHL team in 2025-26. Both Foudy and Gauthier will have to clear waivers when the season begins but seem likely to serve as the offensive drivers for Bridgeport while providing depth for New York.

Providence Bruins' Daniil Misyul Signs In Russia

Kris Craig/The Providence Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Providence Bruins defenseman Daniil Misyul has signed a one-year deal in Russia with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, it was announced earlier this week.

A 2019 third round pick of the New Jersey Devils, Misyul split time this season between the Bruins, Utica Comets and the Devils. Over a combined 58 AHL games, he scored one goal and added eight assists for nine points while going pointless in one NHL appearance.

Since coming over to North America for the 2023-24 season, Misyul has only gotten in one NHL game but has accumulated 23 points over 102 career AHL regular season games. Prior to making the trek, Misyul spent parts of five seasons playing in the KHL with Lokomotiv.

As Misyul heads back to Russia, the chances of him coming back stateside are likely pretty slim. He seems to have a good relationship with Lokomotiv, and the chance to continue playing in the organization he's spent a lot of time with in the past will likely keep him in Russia for the foreseeable future.
