Stars nab Dumba on 2-year pact
The Dallas Stars signed defenseman Matt Dumba to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $3.75 million.
The Stars needed bodies on defense after buying out Ryan Suter and losing Chris Tanev in free agency. Dallas also signed blue-liner Brendan Smith to a one-year, $1-million contract on Monday.
Dumba split last season between the Arizona Coyotes and Tampa Bay Lightning. He put up 12 points in 76 games with the two clubs and averaged nearly 20 minutes per contest.
The soon-to-be 30-year-old played the first 10 seasons of his career with the Minnesota Wild, who drafted him seventh overall in 2012.

Blackhawks add quartet of veterans, including Brossoit, Maroon
The Chicago Blackhawks bolstered their two significant signings from earlier in the day by adding four more experienced players as depth.
The Blackhawks signed backup goaltender Laurent Brossoit to a two-year contract at $3.3 million per season, the club announced Monday. Chicago inked forward Craig Smith to a one-year, $1-million pact.
The club also brought in defenseman Alec Martinez on a one-year, $4-million agreement and inked forward Pat Maroon to a one-year, $1.3-million deal.
Brossoit was one of the best No. 2 netminders in the NHL this past season. The 31-year-old went 15-5-2 with a .927 save percentage over 22 games with the Winnipeg Jets in 2023-24, his 10th campaign.
Smith collected 11 goals and nine assists over 75 games with the Dallas Stars this past season, his 13th in the NHL.
Maroon chipped in four goals and 12 assists in 51 games, 49 of which he played with the Minnesota Wild. They traded the 36-year-old to the Boston Bruins. He played two regular-season contests with the Bruins and 13 more in the playoffs. Maroon won the Stanley Cup three years in a row, doing so with the St. Louis Blues in 2019 and then with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021.
Martinez played four full seasons and 10 games of another with the Vegas Golden Knights after spending parts of his first 10 campaigns with the Los Angeles Kings. He helped the Kings win the Cup in 2012 and 2014 and then did the same with the Golden Knights in 2023.

Kraken ink Stephenson to 7-year deal
The Seattle Kraken signed forward Chandler Stephenson to a seven-year contract worth $6.25 million per season, the team announced Monday.
Stephenson became a free agent Monday after five seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights. His deal with Seattle is a major raise over the $2.75 million he's earned annually since 2020.
The Kraken handed out a pair of max-term contracts Monday, also signing blue-liner Brandon Montour to a lucrative seven-year contract.
Stephenson is a dependable middle-six center and produced 51 points this past season after back-to-back 60-plus-point campaigns. He averaged 18:29 per contest in 2023-24 and won 52.6% of his faceoffs.
The 30-year-old has won the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals and Golden Knights during his nine-year career.

Senators snag Perron, Amadio on multi-year deals
The Ottawa Senators signed free-agent forward David Perron to a two-year contract worth $4 million per season, the team announced Monday.
The 36-year-old registered 17 goals and 30 assists for the Detroit Red Wings last year. Those numbers marked a slight dip from the 24 goals and 32 assists he posted in 2022-23.
Ottawa also announced Monday that it inked forward Michael Amadio to a three-year deal with a $2.6-million cap hit.
Amadio, 28, tallied 14 goals and 27 points in 73 games with the Vegas Golden Knights last season. He won the Stanley Cup with the team in 2023.
Perron and Amadio join an Ottawa squad desperate to get back into contention amid a seven-year playoff drought. The Senators made a free-agency splash with Claude Giroux two summers ago to complement a young core, but the move has yet to result in a postseason berth.
Perron, a Stanley Cup champion with the St. Louis Blues in 2019, has also spent time with the Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, and Vegas Golden Knights. He's tallied 310 goals, 458 assists, and 825 penalty minutes over 1,131 career games.
Ottawa has been busy early in the offseason, also picking up goaltender Linus Ullmark in a trade with the Boston Bruins before free agency began.
