Blackhawks reach deals with Kunitz, Ward, Manning

The Chicago Blackhawks came to terms with a trio of signings as free agency opened Sunday, inking veteran winger Chris Kunitz, goaltender Cam Ward, and defenseman Brandon Manning.

The deals for Kunitz and Ward are one year in length, while Manning is locked in for two. There are no details on salaries at this point.

Kunitz, a four-time Stanley Cup winner, joins the Blackhawks after one year in Tampa Bay where he recorded 13 goals and 16 assists in 82 games.

Ward has spent his entire 13-year career with the Carolina Hurricanes and should serve as an insurance policy behind starter Corey Crawford, who only appeared in 28 games last season.

Manning, 28, recorded 19 points in 65 contests for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2017-18 while logging just under 18 minutes per night.

Report: Avalanche land Ian Cole on 3-year deal

The Colorado Avalanche have signed defenseman Ian Cole to a three-year contract with an average annual value of $4.25 million, reports TSN's Darren Dreger.

Cole is the definition of a stay-at-home defenseman. He had just 20 points in 67 games last season split between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Columbus Blue Jackets. However, he recorded 95 hits and 116 blocked shots and managed to maintain positive possession numbers despite starting most of his shifts in the defensive zone.

At 29, Cole is still relatively young for an unrestricted free agent. He gives the Avs a stellar left-handed-shooting rearguard who can play alongside Erik Johnson or Tyson Barrie on one of the team's top two defense pairings.

Report: Stars sign Comeau to 3-year, $7.2M contract

The Dallas Stars have signed Blake Comeau to a three-year, $7.2-million contract, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

In his third season with the Colorado Avalanche, Comeau notched 13 goals and 34 points in 79 games.

The 32-year-old had a decent playoff run, picking up two goals in six contests against the Nashville Predators.

Bozak heading to Blues on 3-year, $15M deal

The St. Louis Blues agreed to a three-year, $15-million contract with forward Tyler Bozak, the club announced Sunday.

The 32-year-old had spent his entire nine-year career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, who signed him as a college free agent after two years at the University of Denver.

He's coming off a 43-point season and is just one year removed from putting up a career-high 55 points in 2016-17. During his time in Toronto, he scored 136 goals and 365 points in 594 games and another 10 points in 18 playoff contests.

Report: Blackhawks, Ward to sign deal worth over $2.5M annually

The Chicago Blackhawks will sign former Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward to a contract with a cap hit over $2.5 million annually, according to The Athletic's Scott Powers.

The 34-year-old has spent his entire 13-year career with the Hurricanes, winning the Stanley Cup and earning the Conn Smythe Trophy in his rookie campaign.

Ever since that remarkable first season, Ward has seen mixed results with the club. He's coming off a lackluster 2017-18 campaign in which he finished with a 23-14-4 record with a 2.73 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage in 43 games.

He'll serve as backup to Corey Crawford, but given Crawford's recent injury woes, Ward could be called upon to take over the starting role.

Red Wings officially ink Mike Green to 2-year extension

The Detroit Red Wings signed defenseman Mike Green to a two-year contract extension Sunday, the club announced.

Green's cap hit will apparently be $5.375 million, as TSN's Bob McKenzie reported Saturday.

The veteran was a pending unrestricted free agent who just finished the final season of the three-year, $18-million deal he signed with Detroit on July 1, 2015.

Green produced 33 points in 66 games for the Red Wings in 2017-18.

Report: ‘Action picking up’ on Karlsson trade talks

Forget about free agency - July 1 may be the day Ottawa Senators captain Erik Karlsson is traded from the Canadian capital.

TSN's Bob McKenzie has the details:

Karlsson, 28, is heading into the final season of his contract, which will pay him $6.5 million. He can officially sign an extension with his club on July 1, but it appears more and more unlikely it will be with the Sens.

McKenzie tossed out the Tampa Bay Lightning and Vegas Golden Knights as potential destinations for the all-world defenseman.

The Senators recently traded Mike Hoffman after revelations that his fiancee allegedly harassed Karlsson's wife, leading to some speculation that Karlsson could stay in Ottawa. However, as ownership and financial issues seemingly continue to dog the Senators, the defenseman may not be amenable to sticking around.

Karlsson is one of hockey's most talented players, and any trade will reverberate across the league.

Report: Wild, Pateryn agree to 3-year, $6.75M contract

The Minnesota Wild have agreed to a three-year contract with defenseman Greg Pateryn that will pay him $6.75 million, according to Sarah McLellan of the Star Tribune.

The 28-year-old played his first full season in the league as a member of the Dallas Stars, posting one goal, a career-best 13 points, and 50 penalty minutes in 73 games.

Pateryn spent five years with the Montreal Canadiens organization before being traded to the Stars during the 2016-17 season for defenseman Jordie Benn.
