Galchenyuk’s 3rd straight 2-goal game helps Canadiens top Sabres

Alex Galchenyuk will not be denied.

The 22-year-old notched his third straight two-goal game Thursday, leading the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-2 victory over the division-rival Buffalo Sabres.

His pair of second-period tallies also propelled him past captain Max Pacioretty for the team lead with 25 goals. He has now found the back of the net 11 times in his last eight games, adding one assist during that stretch.

Galchenyuk has had six multi-goal games since Feb. 12, and is the first Canadien since Brian Savage in 1995 to post multi-goal games in three consecutive contests, and the first Canadien since Jean Beliveau in 1959 with five multi-goal games in an eight-game span.

Torrey Mitchell scored what would hold up to be the game-winner with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation.

There was a scary site in the final minutes, meanwhile, as defenseman P.K. Subban had to be stretchered off the ice after colliding with teammate Alexei Emelin.

The victory stretches the club's winning streak to two games, after the Canadiens endured a four-game skid to start the month.

P.K. Subban stretchered off after collision with teammate

Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban was removed from the ice on a stretcher Thursday at home versus the Buffalo Sabres after a freak head-first collision with teammate Alexei Emelin.

Subban stumbled to his knees in pursuit along the boards and ended up jamming his head, causing an awkward twisting motion with his neck from the contact with Emelin.

He was able to shake off his gloves and grab at his head immediately after the incident, but the training staff quickly called for reinforcements once they arrived at the fallen defender.

He was able to give thumbs up while he exited the ice.

Subban hasn't missed a game due to injury in his career.

Jaromir Jagr hits 50-point plateau for 20th time

The legend continues to grow.

With a beautiful two-on-one finish on a transition rush with Jonathan Huberdeau on Thursday night versus the Ottawa Senators, Jaromir Jagr secured the 20th 50-point season of his incredible career.

Jagr is the fifth player to hit 50 points 20 times, joining Ron Francis, Ray Bourque, Mark Messier, and Gordie Howe, according to George Richards of the Miami Herald.
