Report: Green gave Red Wings clearance for trade to Lightning, Capitals

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Mike Green has reportedly given the club clearance to potentially trade him to the Washington Capitals or Tampa Bay Lightning, an NHL source told The Athletic's Craig Custance.

Green's current contract includes a full no-trade clause, meaning he has control of where he could end up ahead of Monday's deadline.

As a pending unrestricted free agent, the 32-year-old is one of the top rental defensemen rumored to be available, and both the Caps and Lightning are said to be interested in upgrading their blue lines for the stretch run and playoffs.

Green spent 10 years with the Capitals before joining the Red Wings in 2015-16.

In 56 games this season, Green's recorded 29 points, and was Detroit's lone representative at this year's All-Star Game.
