Report: Conroy to be named Flames GM

Craig Conroy will be named the Calgary Flames' new general manager, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

Conroy has been a part of the Flames' front office since 2010 and has held the assistant general manager title for nine years. He also spent parts of nine seasons as a player in Calgary.

Brad Treliving mutually parted ways with the Flames in April after nine years as the team's general manager. His contract expires on June 30.

Among Conroy's first tasks will be hiring a head coach. Recently promoted president of hockey operations Don Maloney fired Darryl Sutter earlier in May.

Veteran executive Dave Nonis will join Conroy in Calgary's front office in a senior management role, reports Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli. Nonis, who was a candidate for the GM job, reportedly impressed during the interview process.

Flames legend Jarome Iginla - Conroy's former linemate - is expected to join the team in an advisory or consultant role, Seravalli adds.

Nonis owns over six years of experience as an NHL general manager, spending four years with the Vancouver Canucks from 2004-08 and two with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2013-15. He's spent the past three campaigns as assistant GM of the Anaheim Ducks.

The Flames are expected to announce Conroy's promotion Tuesday, according to TSN's Salim Valji.

Kerfoot scores OT winner to cap comeback, Leafs take 3-1 series lead

The Toronto Maple Leafs are one win away from the second round.

After a remarkable third period in which the Maple Leafs came back from a 4-1 deficit, Alexander Kerfoot deflected Mark Giordano's shot on the power play to end overtime.

The Maple Leafs are now up 3-1 over the defending Eastern Conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning as the series shifts back to Toronto for Game 5 on Thursday.

"That's what you dream about: scoring a goal in overtime of the playoffs," Kerfoot said postgame, according to The Athletic's Joshua Kloke.

Kerfoot had a down regular season, tallying just 32 points after racking up 51 a year ago. But head coach Sheldon Keefe always had a hunch the versatile forward would come through in a big moment.

"I felt he was going to score a massive goal for us," Keefe said. "A guy that works as hard as he does, as important he is to the leadership group ... that's the type of guy who gets rewarded."

Auston Matthews scored twice in a 2:45 span in the third period before Morgan Rielly tallied the game-tying goal with 3:56 remaining in regulation. Ilya Samsonov made 27 saves in the victory.

"Credit to the spirit of the group," Keefe said. "It's outstanding to witness."

Toronto won Game 3 in a similar fashion via Rielly's OT winner after Ryan O'Reilly tied the contest in the final minute of regulation.

The Maple Leafs haven't won a series since defeating the Ottawa Senators in the first round of the 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Rangers acquire Kane from Blackhawks

It's Showtime in the Big Apple.

The New York Rangers acquired star forward Patrick Kane from the Chicago Blackhawks in a three-team deal with the Arizona Coyotes, the teams announced Tuesday.

The Blackhawks are getting a 2023 conditional second-round pick, a 2025 fourth-round pick, defenseman Andy Welinski from the Rangers, and blue-liner Vili Saarijarvi from the Coyotes. If the Rangers make the conference finals, the second-round pick becomes a first-round selection in either 2024 or 2025, sources told ESPN's Emily Kaplan.

In addition to Kane, the Rangers also receive minor-league defenseman Cooper Zech.

The Coyotes collect a 2025 third-round pick from the Rangers as part of the deal.

The Blackhawks will retain 50% of Kane's $10.5-million cap hit, while Arizona will take on 25% of his salary.

A three-time Stanley Cup champion, Kane has 16 goals and 45 points in 54 games this season. A lingering hip injury reportedly made teams concerned about his status.

Kane has 52 goals and 132 points in 136 career postseason games. He captured the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2013.

Kane had been vocal about his interest in New York as a potential destination if he chose to waive his no-trade clause. The 34-year-old is from Buffalo.

New York already added Vladimir Tarasenko, Niko Mikkola, and Tyler Motte earlier in February.
