Predators’ Winter Classic jersey leaked on banner

The Nashville Predators' sweaters for the upcoming Winter Classic appear to have been accidentally revealed prematurely.

The jersey design is a tribute to the Nashville Dixie Flyers, according to Sportslogos.net's Chris Creamer. The Dixie Flyers were a minor-league hockey club that played in the Eastern Hockey League from 1962-71.

An official unveiling is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.

The Dallas Stars will host the Predators at Cotton Bowl Stadium in the Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2020.

Canucks’ Hughes suffers lower-body injury vs. Ducks

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes suffered a lower-body injury Friday against the Anaheim Ducks and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest, the team announced.

The 20-year-old phenom went down awkwardly after getting his skate caught in the ice.

Hughes, the seventh overall pick in the 2018 draft, has 10 points in 13 games this season - the most among Canucks defensemen and tied for the most among all rookie skaters entering Friday.

Lightning trade Louis Domingue to Devils

The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded goaltender Louis Domingue to the New Jersey Devils for a conditional seventh-round pick, the team announced Friday.

Tampa Bay will receive New Jersey's seventh-round selection in 2021 if Domingue plays seven games or one playoff contest for the Devils this season, or if he's traded before the 2020 draft.

Domingue went 21-5-0 with the Lightning last season, sporting a .908 save percentage and a 2.88 goals-against average. He has one year remaining on his contract carrying a $1.15-million cap hit.

The 27-year-old has played exclusively in the AHL this campaign after Tampa Bay signed veteran Curtis McElhinney in free agency to back up Andrei Vasilevskiy.

The Devils' tandem of MacKenzie Blackwood and Cory Schneider have combined for a disappointing .859 save percentage and a 3.96 goals-against average this season entering Friday.

Leafs remaining positive despite ‘world crashing down on us’

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews isn't phased by the negative criticism the team has received throughout a subpar opening month to the season.

"We're 14-to-15 games in and the world's crashing down on us but we're staying positive in this room," Matthews told the assembled media Friday, including TSN.

"It's early. We're still meshing together (with) new guys and new faces, so like I said, we want to take another step here in November and continue to put our best foot forward."

A busy offseason saw the Leafs undergo their largest roster turnover with this core group of players, but with nine of their 14 games in November coming away from Scotiabank Arena, forward Mitch Marner hopes the club can mesh during its time on the road.

"We're more traveling this time around and we're going on road games, we're getting time with each other on the road," Marner said.

"I think it's good we're going to get some time to hang out on the road ... We haven't been able to really do that over this past month and it's always big for your team (to) get chemistry going early. We still have a lot of new guys on this team and this month's going to be big for us."

With team captain John Tavares and forward Zach Hyman nearing a return, Toronto is inching toward having all its regulars healthy for the first time this season.

The Leafs will look to begin November on the right note when they travel to Philadelphia to clash with the Flyers on Saturday.

Penguins activate Malkin from IR

The Pittsburgh Penguins have activated Evgeni Malkin off of injured reserve, the team announced Friday.

Malkin - who's missed the Penguins' last 11 games with a leg injury - is likely to make his return to the lineup Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers.

"He looks good. He's participating in practice in a full capacity," head coach Mike Sullivan said earlier Friday. "We will see how he responds after today's practice, but it's certainly encouraging (for him to play tomorrow)."

The 33-year-old was hurt in the Penguins' second game of the season Oct. 5 and was expected to miss at least a month. Pittsburgh has weathered the storm during his absence, compiling a 7-4-0 record over that span.

Malkin has one goal in the two games he's appeared in this season.

Flyers’ Patrick remains week-to-week with migraine disorder

Philadelphia Flyers forward Nolan Patrick remains week-to-week as he recovers from a migraine disorder, general manager Chuck Fletcher said Thursday.

"There's no change in his status," Fletcher said, according to Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia. "We just continue to work with him and hope that he continues to improve."

Patrick was diagnosed with the disorder in late September and has yet to play this season.

"We're hopeful. It's a tough situation," Fletcher added when asked if he believes Patrick will play this season. "I can't predict what will happen."

The 21-year-old has recorded 26 goals and 61 points over 145 games across two seasons since being taken second overall by the Flyers in 2017.
