Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Hockey Night in Canada's "Saturday Headlines" segment, that the NHL is not planning "substantive changes" to its All-Star voting process.

This means write-in candidates will remain welcome, leaving the potential for the next "John Scott" to play in this year's event in Los Angeles.

Scott became a cult hero when the long-time pugilist embraced an online campaign to have him attend last year's event in Nashville. And, sure enough, he was voted as the Pacific Division captain. But his status was cast in doubt - and incited widespread debate in hockey circles - when the Arizona Coyotes shipped him to the Montreal Canadiens, who then promptly buried him in the minor leagues.

The NHL made what proved to be the right decision by honoring the vote, as he went on to capture the MVP award for the three-on-three tournament and in the process helped attract attention that wouldn't have existed otherwise. But because it couldn't possibly turn out as well a second time, changes were expected to prevent it from happening again.
