Barrie’s X-rays negative after suffering ankle injury vs. Oilers

Tyson Barrie appears to have avoided a significant injury.

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe didn't offer a timeline for the injured defenseman's recovery, but he did shed some light on the blue-liner's status after Barrie was hurt blocking a shot against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.

"No update other than his X-rays that we had were negative, but he just didn't feel comfortable enough to go back," Keefe said postgame. "We'll just see how he is when we get home."

Barrie left the Maple Leafs' 4-1 victory midway through the first period after absorbing a shot from Oilers forward Gaetan Haas.

Barrie tested out his ankle several times during subsequent breaks in the action, but the Leafs later said he wouldn't return.

The 28-year-old has collected 13 points in 33 games this season, his first campaign with the Maple Leafs after the Colorado Avalanche traded him to Toronto on July 1.

The Leafs, who just concluded a four-game road trip, host the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.

Kucherov exits vs. Capitals after blocking shot

Tampa Bay Lightning star Nikita Kucherov was ruled out in the second period of Saturday's contest against the Washington Capitals with an undisclosed injury, the team announced.

Kucherov blocked a heavy one-timer from Capitals defenseman John Carlson and looked to be in pain while hobbling to the dressing room.

Head coach John Cooper didn't offer an update on his blue-chip winger's status following the game, according to the team.

Kucherov recorded one assist and two shots on goal through 11:47 of ice time before departing.

The 26-year-old sniper entered Saturday's action with 10 goals and a team-leading 33 points in 29 games this season.

Kucherov authored one of the best campaigns in recent memory in 2018-19, leading the NHL with 128 points to capture both the Art Ross and Hart trophies.

Devils hold Hall out for 2nd straight game

Taylor Hall is sitting out for the second consecutive night.

The New Jersey Devils' star forward isn't in the lineup against the Arizona Coyotes, according to Devils reporter Chris Wescott.

New Jersey held Hall out of Friday's loss to the Colorado Avalanche as a precaution.

The Devils are reportedly listening to offers for the pending unrestricted free agent. The Avalanche, Coyotes, and Florida Panthers have expressed varying degrees of interest in the 2017-18 Hart Trophy winner.
