Capitals’ Carlson returns after month-long absence

The NHL's No. 1 team is getting its No. 1 defenseman back Friday.

The Washington Capitals will welcome back John Carlson for their tilt against the New Jersey Devils.

The 26-year-old has been absent from the team's past 13 games, a stretch that has seen the club go 8-4-1.

Sharks’ DeBoer not ready to name playoff starter

While the playoffs may be just weeks away, San Jose Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer is still not ready to name his starting goaltender.

Martin Jones and the newly-acquired James Reimer have shared netminding duties over the past few weeks and Deboer expects to stay the course as the team heads down the stretch.

"All kinds of things can happen here over the next two weeks. We're just going to worry about tomorrow," DeBoer said, according to Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area. "We think we've got two guys that we're very comfortable with, and we'll see where we are when we have to make those decisions."

The two have split the team's last 12 games going 7-5-0 and have both fared admirably with Jones posting a .932 save percentage and Reimer riding a .920 in that span.

Report: NHL working on puck-tracking technology to right controversial calls

The NHL is hoping to put an end to controversial goal calls.

The NHL is currently working on puck-tracking technology in an attempt to aid the video review process, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

Dreger added that exact details of the technology are unknown, noting the idea of a chip in pucks, but that the league is working on the issue. Sources have also told Dreger that there has been some on-ice testing, but that the technology is not believed to be game-ready.

Huge controversy arose during Thursday's game between the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers where Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron appeared to have scored only to have his goal waved off after it was deemed to be inconclusive.

“The Carolina Hurricanes and PNC Arena are devoted to providing a welcoming and respectful environment for all fans. We stand against all forms of discrimination," the club said in a statement Friday.

North Carolina governor Pat McCrory signed the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act on Wednesday. The bill prevents cities in the state from allowing transgender individuals to use public bathrooms for the biological sex with which they identify.

In a statement Thursday, the NBA said it is "deeply concerned that this discriminatory law runs counter to our guiding principles of equality and mutual respect," adding the league does "not yet know what impact it will have" on the 2017 NBA All-Star Game in Charlotte.

Blackhawks get Kruger back after 3-month absence

A familiar face is back in the fold for the Chicago Blackhawks.

The 25-year-old forward was reunited with his old linemates at practice Friday, joining Andrew Shaw and Andrew Desjardins on the fourth line.

Kruger's return comes about three weeks earlier than originally expected.

He managed only a single point in 33 games before his injury.

The Swedish center has spent his entire six-year career with Chicago, winning the Stanley Cup in 2013 and 2015.
